Hi, I’m Laney Tucker — a Southern California–based corporate lawyer and content creator who’s mastered the delicate art of work-life balance in one of the most demanding industries out there.

After nearly eight years practicing law in both BigLaw and in-house roles, I’ve learned that success doesn’t have to come at the cost of your sanity, style, or social life.

I created Laney the Lawyer to show ambitious women that you can thrive in your career, raise the Bar ⚖️ in your dating life, and still make time for the things that make you feel alive — travel, wellness, and a little luxury along the way.

From Burnout to Balance

I graduated law school in 2017 and spent over five years in BigLaw — thriving professionally but running on fumes personally.

Like so many high-achieving women, I had the title, the salary, and the prestige… but I’d stopped prioritizing myself.

During the pandemic, remote work gave me a glimpse of what balance could look like.

I closed multimillion-dollar deals at 9 p.m., then went dancing in Miami. I took client calls in the afternoon and surfed in Waikiki at sunset. For the first time, I saw that a life of achievement and enjoyment could coexist.

I transitioned to an in-house role, thinking that a slower pace would be what made work sustainable this time - without taking into account that the job itself wasn’t the issue. It was the way I’d abandoned myself and my other hobbies while doing it.

After two years in-house, I took a sabbatical — and moved to Mexico City.

Mexico, music and meaning

In Mexico, I reconnected with the parts of myself I’d neglected — my love of language, food, culture, and community.

I collaborated with local YouTubers, filmed taco reviews, and rediscovered how much joy I get from connecting with people.

I also traveled through Europe — dancing at electronic music festivals, visiting friends in Spain, and learning how to simply be again. That season taught me what no law degree ever could: that self-connection is the foundation of all success.

Redefining what it means to “have it all”

When I returned to BigLaw, I made myself a promise: this time, I’d build a version of success that included me. I start my mornings with meditation and a workout, take evening walks on the beach, and make time for dates, concerts, and adventures — without guilt.

Because here’s the truth: you can’t pour from an empty cup, and balance isn’t about doing less — it’s about living with intention.

You can log the hours, close the deals, and still enjoy your life.

You can wear the heels and keep your soul intact.

You can have it all — as long as you know your why.
